UBET for Tabcorp

Smarter self service for Australia’s leading wagering brand

Tabcorp is Australia’s largest wagering and gaming entertainment group, operating under the TAB brand across the country.

NEO has worked with Tabcorp since 1991 to design and evolve self service wagering terminals that make the in-venue experience faster, more reliable and more engaging for customers.

At the time of this project, the terminals were branded under UBET – Tabcorp’s Queensland and South Australian retail network. Following Tabcorp’s brand consolidation in December 2018, all UBET outlets were transitioned to the TAB brand.

Project Highlights

Client  Tabcorp Holdings Limited
Platform  Transactional
Functions  Wagering, cash handling, bet slip printing
Partner IBM
Deployment  Indoor and outdoor terminals
Region  Australia wide

The Challenge

Tabcorp wanted to modernise its self service terminal network to support both indoor and outdoor wagering – improving usability, durability and customer experience.

Working with IBM, Tabcorp engaged NEO to:

  • Redesign outdoor wagering kiosks for harsh Australian conditions
  • Simplify terminal servicing for regional and remote venues
  • Integrate multiple peripherals – scanners, printers, readers and cash modules
  • Maintain a consistent interface across all locations

The Solution

NEO developed a modular kiosk platform for Tabcorp’s UBET wagering terminals, designed for performance, reliability and ease of service.

Each terminal features:

  • 21-inch touchscreen interface for intuitive customer interaction
  • Barcode reader and bet slip printer for fast paper-based workflows
  • Mark sense card reader for prefilled betting cards
  • Cash handling module for full service venues
  • Lightweight, ruggedised housing suitable for indoor and outdoor use

Terminals can be wall-mounted, counter-mounted or pedestal-based.

Modules can be swapped out on site without tools, reducing downtime and service costs.

The Outcome

The new platform improved speed, durability and customer engagement across Tabcorp’s retail network.

When the UBET brand was retired in 2018, the same terminal design was retained – becoming part of the TAB retail network nationwide.

Benefits include:

  • Consistent performance across diverse venue types
  • Shorter service times and simplified maintenance
  • Extended hardware life through robust construction
  • Unified brand experience following the TAB integration
